So, you need to drive from the centre of London to Uig on the Western Isles?

For all you motorists who don't have 30 years of national commercial driving experience - it goes something like this.....

Drive around for half an hour or so finding a newsagent with parking space and buy yourself a nice new A to Z and current road atlas. Fumble through a book that is much happier closed than open and eventually find where you are.

Plan a route out of town, smile at the traffic warden, take her advice and move on, just when you were getting the hang of reading impossibly small print and trying to string together numerous pages. Glance down at the guide, xxxx it has gone back to it's favourite shape! Find another place to park - start again.

When you finally get to the edge of town, stop and try and calculate the best route to the Western Isles using the road atlas. Towing, driving a tall vehicle? - hmm, should have bought a magnifying glass when you were in W H Smiths to check for low bridges, oh yes whilst your at it, width restrictions, steep gradients, sharp bends etc. - Soon be an experienced cartographer.- O.K. better make some notes, hmmm, knew there was something else you wanted from Smiths on your second visit?

Put map and notes on passenger seat and set off with that confident feeling that all is now under control....spot a speed camera, hit the brakes, car and caravan survive, errrr, now where did those notes go to!? - Shouldn't have been trying to make up for lost time. Rummage around for notes on the floor - must be among the bags somewhere, hmm better pull over...somewhere.

Notes firmly wedged, off we go. Where did this junction come from - back to the map. Only halfway there and its getting dark - should have bought a luminous pen, can't read the notes - still firmly in place though. Drive, stop, read the notes, drive, stop, read the map. Stop. Great, traffic hold up that's all you need.

Consider re-routing, can't find the magnifying glass. Consider crying. Why is everyone hooting at you - can't they see your having a crisis? Traffic slows again, better take that turning. Stop, spend 20 mins recalculating route and risk the low bridges. Hit roadworks detour....

Frustrated? Upset? Lost? Late? DON'T PANIC ! - Stay the night at that nice looking pub, phone Ultimate Design for an overnight delivery of the new Traveller and look forward to a hassle free holiday!
